Garden maintenance

A garden in the west of Scotland grows hard from April to October. Grass in a wet spring can put on enough growth in ten days to make a mower struggle, hedges thicken quickly, and beds that were clear in May are full by July. Left alone for a season, a manageable garden turns into a clearance job. Regular maintenance is simply the cheaper and less disruptive version of the same work.

A typical visit covers cutting the grass, tidying the edges where lawn meets path or border, weeding beds, cutting back growth that is spilling over paths or windows, and clearing arisings so nothing is left sitting in a pile. Hedges are trimmed at the right point in the season. In autumn the emphasis moves to leaf clearance, cutting back and getting the garden into a state where winter does not do damage. In winter, visits become less frequent but still useful for gutters lines, overhanging growth and general tidying.

Frequency depends on the garden. A small enclosed plot might need a visit every three or four weeks through the growing season. A larger garden with hedges, mature trees and long borders often needs fortnightly attention from spring through autumn. Some customers want a single tidy-up before a family event, a property viewing or the end of a tenancy, and that is equally straightforward to arrange.
